The Archie McPhee Library has a secret cupboard containing a wish list of books we wish we owned. One of those amazing volumes is Les Diners de Gala, a stunning cookbook that was both written and sumptuously illustrated by the inimitably awesome surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, published in 1973.
"The twelve chapters each cover a specific class of dishes — from exotic courses to fish and shellfish to vegetables — rendered with a surrealist twist both gastronomically and aesthetically, but nowhere more so than in the tenth chapter, dedicated to aphrodisiacs."
Head over to Brain Pickings to view more pages from Dalí’s cookbook, including some of the actual recipes. But be forewarned, some of the images are decidedly NSFW.
And if you really want to treat yourself, you can actually purchase one of the rare remaining copies of Les Diners de Gala on Amazon.
